The blog went through a name change in March 2013. Formerly known as BOTLO for "be on the lookout", it is now The Fog. It is a name that I think is better and will be more permanent.
The Greek is translated as "Before the face of God." Normally this is stated in Latin as Coram Deo. I had in mind to possibly rename the blog Carpe Diem, Coram Deo (Seize the day, before the face of God), but many others had already taken that idea. Then I found out what the whole phrase says in Greek and I thought that'd be cool to use. However, it seemed too long for a Blog name, so I shortened it.
I knew I couldn't put Greek letters in the web name and beforethefaceofgod.gutensite is very long. However, face of God can be written as fog (or FOG). In ways that can only make sense in the mind of Kedric Webster, here is why I have changed the name.
- Fog is considered as low-lying clouds. Sometimes it can be so thick you can't see the hood of your car.
- In the Bible the imagery of the cloud is used as a manifestation of the glory of God. The LORD is said to inhabit the glory cloud as it descends on where he chooses (Exodus 40:34-35; 1 Kings 8:10-11). Jesus is also surrounded by the glory cloud (Matthew 17:5; Acts 1:9).
- As a Kansas Jayhawk fan it makes sense. There is a well-known banner that hangs in Allen Field House that says, Pay heed all who enter: Beware of the Phog! Made in 1988, the warning is supposedly based on the 1980 movie The Fog and the play on words (fog, Phog) is from the famous Kansas coach Forrest C. "Phog" Allen.
So there you have it. Now I can say of my blog, "Beware of the FOG!"
This site is my online presence that will contain thoughts and stories about life, theology, and other issues.
